The article appeared in the French paper Les Echos in May 1939. During this time, several names were being debated in Paris to assume the throne in Syria, including Abbas Hilmi II the ex-Khedive of Egypt, Prince Said al-Jazairi, the grandson of Algerian resistance leader Emir Abdul-Qader al-Jazairi, Ahmad Nami, the son-in-law of Sultan Abdulhamid II, Emir Zeid, the brother of King Abdullah of Jordan, and finally, Saud or Faisal, the sons of Saudi King Abdul-Aziz.
