Asmahan, whose real name was Amal al-Atrash, was famous throughout the Arab World for making timeless films and songs in the 1930s. She emerged as a go-between between Druze leaders in Syria and the invading British Army during World War II. Asmahan died at the young age of 27 in 1944 when her car sank into a ditch, prompting rumors that remain alive until today, that she had been killed by Egyptian and British intelligence.
