Fawzi al-Ghazzi was elected to the Constitutional Assembly that was created in 1928 to draft Syria's first republican constitution, along with his ally in the National Bloc, Fares al-Khury. One year later, Ghazzi died at the age of 38, when he was poisoned by his wife.
