Charles Crane was member of the two-man delegation, known as the King-Crane Commission, sent by US President Woodrow Wilson to Syria to see if the people of Syria wanted a French Mandate or not. The two men met with different sectors of Syrian society, then reported to Wilson that the mass majority of Syrians refuse a French Mandate, but would welcome an American one, thanks to the 14-Points of the US President, which emphasized self-determination.
