As a volunteer in the Syrian Red Crescent in the 1940s, Qamar Shora worked aggressively on securing shelter and aid to Palestinian refugees fleeing to Syria after the Palestine War of 1948. In 1949, she strongly advocated for a law granting Syrian women suffrage rights during the era of President Husni al-Zaim. In 1950 she began speaking of women’s rights on Damascus Radio, and in 1954, was active in collecting humanitarian and financial aid for the Algerian Revolution. In 1957-1963 she served as secretary-general of the Arab Women’s Union.
