Seated on the left is Fairuz's husband, the legendary Lebanese musician Assi al-Rahbani, who composed the Syrian Baath Anthem. Fairuz had began her career at Damascus Radio in the early 1950s. She went on to become a regular star at the annual Damascus International Fair, where she performed every September in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1966 and 1978. In 1985 she perfomed in the ancient city of Busra, and then parted ways with Syria for 23-years, not making another appearance until 2008 where she staged her musical "Sah al-Nawm" at the Damascus Opera. In 1967, Fairuz was decorated the Order of Merit, Excellence Class, by Syrian President Nur al-Din al-Atasi.
