New 10-2006: President Gamal Abdul-Nasser with Colonel Abdul-Hamid Sarraj, the Syrian Minister of Interior, during the Syrian-Egyptian Union of 1958-1961. Sarraj had been one of Nasser’s strongest supporters in the Syrian Army in 1955-1958 when he had served as director of intelligence in Damascus. He was rewarded for his loyalty by the post of Minister of Interior in the United Arab Republic (UAR).
