About this Site
Sami Moubayed, a Syrian political analyst, has been researching Syrian history since 1996. He is the author of three books on modern Syria. Over an 8-year period, he has accumulated a very large collection of papers, documents, and photographs, which he decided to display in the first online museum of Syria. The idea came to mind and was executed with his friend Sahban Abd Rabbo, the site's webmaster, in late 2004. Abd Rabbo, who has created many sites about Syria since 1996, worked with Moubayed on the project, which took a lot of time due to the amount of photo collection and correction. Many of the photos on this website are not exclusive, having been published earlier, yet the majority are rare, and in some cases, never before seen photographs or documents. The quality at times is minimal, either due to age, since some of the photos are over 100 years old, or due to repeated publishing. Syrianhistory.com would like to apologize for the quality of some photos, and point out that all of the photos published are in honor of Syrian history, and are not for commercial use.
This website could not have been completed without the contribution and support of the ladies and gentlemen mentioned below. Most of the photos on this website were collected from their private albums, while others were scanned from books.
